Moxie Girlz by MGA

Sunday, July 26th, 2009

As many doll collectors and enthusiasts would know by now, Bratz (MGA) lost the battle with Barbie (Mattel). It looks like MGA has started work (as in selling already) on a new line of dolls to replace the soon to be taken off the shelves Bratz dolls.

Meet the Moxie Girlz

Lexa, Sasha, Avery and Sophia

Lexa, Sasha, Avery and Sophina

They are -

  • Lexa – a brunette doll with fair skin and green eyes, she is most likely Caucasian
  • Sasha – a black haired doll with light brown skin, she could be African American or any other ethnicity with dark skin
  • Avery – blonde, fair with blue eyes, has to be Caucasian
  • Sophina – black haired doll with olive skin, most likely Hispanic judging by the name…

Of course, Asians don’t exist in this universe either /snark/ or you could pretend that Sophina is Asian with um wavy hair…

I actually think the dolls look really cute and I can see the 5-10 year olds loving these girls. My only other criticism apart from the non-existence of Asians, is that the face mould and the face paints are exactly the same albeit in different colours… but then Bratz was also done with the same face + paint template so I guess it stays consistent with that. Maybe that’s what little kids like? But then, the same criticism could also be applied to current line of Mattel’s Playline Barbie dolls.

These Moxie dolls do look really adorable much better than Bratz I think – does anyone else notice how similar the line name Moxie is to Mixi?

Article About SiS Dolls @ The Root

While searching for articles about the OOAK Mattel Auction dolls for the 2009 USA Barbie Convention – I’d actually stumbled across these articles. No kidding, I googled “2009 barbie convention” under the category of “Blogs” – try it yourself… anywhooo – the articles:

The Root is…

The Root is a daily online magazine that provides thought-provoking commentary on today’s news from a variety of black perspectives. The site also hosts an interactive genealogical section to trace one’s ancestry through AfricanDNA.com, a DNA testing site co-founded by Henry Louis Gates, Jr., who is also The Root’s Editor-In-Chief. The Root aims to be an unprecedented departure from traditional American journalism, raising the profile of black voices in mainstream media and engaging anyone interested in black culture around the world.

taken from the first paragraph on the page www.theroot.com/aboutus

I would fall under anyone … around the world.

Now, I absolutely love all my African American dolls… but if you think it’s hard trying to find a black doll, try looking for an Asian doll! I have to pretend that Hispanic and Native American dolls are Asian! (yes, I’m an adult *pouts*) That is my snark for the day…

Obviously Mattel MUST know that people/women of colour exist because they have in their employment these two uber talented and gorgeous doll designers! So can we get more dolls that look like your designers Mattel? (and thanks again to Stacey M-I for those lovely So in Style girls – now, if only they were sold outside of the USA…)

Happened to come across this photo (Oakland, California – 1969), and thought it was pretty awesome. And I share things I think are awesome.

I almost completely agree with it… except… where are the WOMEN?
