Meet my lil’ Travelling Buddy :)

little miss... ???

she's my lil' girl!

She is Uhura’s head on PoP Life Christie’s body – she doesn’t have a name yet… I’m really hopeless with names, most of the ones I come up with sound like jelly or gibberish… halp?

Her first trip was to a local get-together of other doll collectors :) – the theme was Mix & Match

I am biased but I think she is the most stylish little lady out of that group…

Barbie Fashionistas (Future Playline Dolls?)

Wednesday, August 12th, 2009

GOOD NEWS – these dolls are jointed! fantastic for posing! weeeee!

BAD NEWS – no Hispanic or Asian characters… FOUR blondes… ONLY ONE Afro-looking doll… a brunette with blonde bits…let’s read again – FOUR blondes… but NOT ONE Hispanic or Asian character? *stumped*

These facts were realised upon seeing the below image, since this series has yet to be released nor can detailed information be found… I do hope that my assumptions are totally wrong and we do get to see more Hispanic and Asian looking representations on the shop shelves in the future…

EDIT 14-08-09 – these dolls are now listed on barbie.com here… calling out for all those body snatchers ;)

… of course I post the above image and find a much better one immediately after… (the doll labelled “cute” on barbie.com seems to really be “cutie” according to the flyer)

Missing Shade(s) of Black?

Saturday, August 8th, 2009

This is a question for fellow Barbie doll collectors…

I seem to have a gap in dark skin tones… yes/no?

missing shade(s) of black?

missing shade(s) of black?

Are there any dolls that have a skin tone that is in between light brown and dark brown? Most of my other AA dolls are the same colour as Uhura (second doll of the left) and a few ever so slightly a teensy bit darker… but nothing quite medium-ish…

ADD – I *think* the shade I’m looking for is used for the doll head on the stick labelled 17442 Asha (left of image), or maybe even the shade used for 4092 Christie – apparently Barbie uses seven different skin tones… I’ve counted a lot more than that, must be the variations in different batches of dolly plastic…

haha… I’ve even created a quick scale to compare the skin shades (seven variations as according to “official info”)… hmmm (am I weird?)

Aside – even my partner reckons his skin shade is in between (I’ve checked, it’s true lol)

Liv World by Spin Master

Saturday, August 8th, 2009

ETA – Please DO NOT ask me how to activate or get to their website or whatever. I don’t know. Any future questions of this kind will be deleted. Try emailing support @ livworld.com (remember to delete the spaces) instead. I am not affiliated or employed by this company… I don’t even have these dolls.

By now, these dolls are probably old news… but I thought I’d still write about them! Thanks to Chdenni for mentioning them in a comment on the 28th of last month.

These dolls are made by Spin Master Ltd. a Canadian toy company that began in 1994.

The characters of Liv World are -

Daniela, Katie, Sophie and Alexis

Daniela, Katie, Sophie and Alexis

  • Daniela – black hair with brown eyes, peachy skin
  • Katie – dark brown hair with green eyes, most pale skin
  • Sophie – light blonde hair with blue eyes, warmer pale skin
  • Alexis – dark brown hair with brown eyes, light brown skin

These dolls look great! They actually have features that are not stereotypically of any certain ethnicity (except the blonde hair). They have big wide opened almond shaped eyes and look totally sweet and innocent.

They are specifically marketed to pre-teens and have an interactive online world in association with the dolls. The Liv World Grand Opening (online) will be on the 15th of August!
