Barbie Basics – Accessories FAIL

Animals are NOT accessories! They are living breathing beings with personalities, needs, feelings and life spans of years at a minimum!

can you spot the fail?

can you spot the fail?

Repeat, animals are NOT accessories! >:(

Unless of course it’s a stuffed toy… for Mattel’s sake… let’s hope the doggie is supposed to be a stuffed toy… a stuffed toy for a fashionable sophisticated adult woman… yes… very possible… I have lotsa stuffed toys… but then I’m not really fashionable nor sophisticated O_o

lol the last bit was pretty funny, but I completely agree. And just once I wish they would use a big ole pitbull or doberman instead of the stereotypical pocket dog/

We have an adorable, spunky cat and two turtles, but I would not get myself gussied up in a formal little black dress and attach an animal to that outfit. So it’s not just reducing the poor animal to thing-status. It’s like WHY?! LBDs – to me- are dressy, formal, SOCIAL outfits.

(Note: formal affairs are tedious enough for people, why torment animals with them?)

I guess that the same thinking that has a disco ball in a camper is at work here. Shrug.

Therese gives new meaning to the phrase PET peeve. LOL.

Hmmm… I could imagine a person so attached to her pet that she’d take it almost everywhere and even dress up her dog in a fashion matching with her outfit. And I don’t know if it would be a hit if Mattel started selling solely pets in packs.

Personally, I think the dog is just a filler, something to make the pack look like there’s a lot of stuff and personality in there. I know a lot of people who would easily throw or sell that pet right away.

Before I saw the photo, I thought you meant something like an animal being made into a stole or frogs made into coin purses. Yes, I have seen coin purses made from real frogs/toads (and looks like real frogs and toads) being sold. I know, ewwww!

The issue is that a lot of people do see pets as accessories, something to match their furniture or their lifestyle and then they give them away or abandon them once the dog does not “fit” into their lifestyle. A pet is a family member, not a decorative piece of furniture!

Mattel could have made a pack with a dog AND doggie related accessories! Like a cool collar/harness (I don’t think harnesses can ever be cool lol)/leash, carry bag, doggie jumpers and stylish doggie toys and foodware – plenty of stuff! I’d rather see a dog having accessories, rather than *being* the accessory…

I rolled my eyes when I noticed the dog. I agree completely, animals aren’t accessories. The itty bitty breeds can have horrible health problems because of breeders only interested in cashing in on a fad.

C’mon…. and Barbie is not a model… it’s a TOY! Ok, bears are not pet, but we grew up with tons of teddy bears! Why on earth anyone it’s making a storm on a glass of water when it’s related to Barbie…. Go to the real life, send an email to those who carry a chihuahua on their purses, and leave Barbie alone.

years ago (when Paris Hilton was on an upward trajectory still) I bought a Pomeranian Puppy. I took her to my nieces soccer game. I was carrying her from the car, under my arm until we got to where I could put her down in the grass on her leash. I little girl, preteen, said to me “I really like your Fashion Dog.” That was pretty funny to me.

What’s so bad in it? If every normal woman social woman has a LBD in their closet, so every RICH normal social woman has Chihuahua in their purse. Yes, they carry it like an accessory, and they care for it too. Mattel didn’t directly mean that puppy is a jewelry, its just a part of the set. And come on, its a TOY! Do you think that plastic dog mind that its inside a box. Too much Toy Story? Still, you made a good point that in REAL life, we should NOT treat them as an accessory. They could have made it a set of pet accessories. For example; a dog with its collar, food stuff, little jumpers, doggie toys, etc. But then how does it relate with Barbie Basics? It doesn’t, and there are PLENTY other dog care Barbie sets. So I think this little puppy being a part of an accessory set for Barbie Basics is FINE!
