Just some piccies of the original Black Barbie wearing the repro fashion #9837 included in the 1977 Superstar Barbie Repro N4974 set.
Still to do – a proper post about Mixis dolls…
BTW did anyone else notice the total whiteness of the M(y) F(avorite) B(arbie) D(oll) series? Or maybe the lack of repro dolls of color was planned on purpose to keep the vintage prices of those rare dolls up?

Maybe when Christie reaches her 50th anniversary they will make a line for her- My Favorite Christie Doll.

… but aren’t “black barbie” dolls also part of the Barbie Doll history?

“Black Barbie” is part of Barbie history, but – and this is just MY guess – the celebration is all about the default Barbie, “White Barbie” who is the one having the 50th birthday. The other raced Barbies have their places in the market. But they aren’t the one being celebrated – directly.
Perhaps that’s why the Sisters in Style line was created – as a nod to Black Barbie fans?
Me, I’d have done a Barbie the World Doll and created dolls for several races/ethnicities – Black, Asian, Hispanic, Native American – and made them one year specials. Shrug. But I can see how that would be expensive.

I think the first black Barbie should have been in the MFBD series. I would rather have seen her than Malibu or Rockers.
