Finally, my POP Christie, Kentucky Derby along with FR Future Bound Luchia Z. dolls have arrived…
I was waiting for POP Christie to come home so I can finally start writing about dolls in blackface, as in dolls that are of a Caucasian mould but made out of brown plastic. I don’t doubt that there are dark skinned people who have these features but these features are more associated with people of European heritage rather than African ancestry.

Then I can go on (when Arctic Barbie arrives) about how weird it is that dolls that are supposed to be Native American look more East Asian than the dolls that are supposed to be East Asian – yellowface anyone? (I will try to avoid muttering incoherently about various theories involving Indigenous Americans, Mongolians and the Qing Dynasty).

Oh yeah, and Luchia – doll of no-color – will also get a post, how seriously undead does she look? *grins*
Aside – although these dolls are examples of the Eurocentric standards of beauty imposed on black women, I have no intention of selling them. BTW would anyone have an AKA Centennial SKU #L9657 doll they wish to sell (to me)?

I think the reason that Arctic Barbie is Asian like because the Eskimo is having the same ancestors as the Asian people as I read long ago. You will see that the Eskimo will mostly look like Japanese. So I am not surprise Eskimo Barbie or Arctic Barbie have the Oriental Face mold. But I kind of surprise to see Peruvian Barbie uses the Oriental Barbie face mold. But that is cute anyway.

Hi Panya! Thanks for stopping by
Yeah, I am convinced that native American peoples came from Eurasia, but what’s weird is that dolls of native Americans look more east Asian than dolls that are supposed to be east Asians! Well, I think so anyway…

I’m going to add your blog to my BlogList; if you would rather I not, please let me know either by blog comment or to my e-mail address provided above.
Not to take you away from the Barbie scene, but there are some neat ethnic dolls that you might want to add – maybe cut back on a Barbie or two to accommodate the new ones. Try Get Set Club dolls online or Mixis dolls. I have information about these dolls at my blog, http://phillycollector.blogspot.com/ , if you would like to see photos of those and similar ethnic dolls and action figures. They aren’t all expensive and you get variety of shapes and sizes.
Happy Collecting.

Hey there, thanks for commenting – I’m aware of other brands that do make more ethnic dolls but one of the issues that I’m trying to get to is that Barbie is such a a big brand and they should also take on the responsibility of making dolls that reflect more than just the North European ethnicities.
Apart from that, I am limited through budget and space and I’d rather stick with just Barbie which is on the cheaper end of fashion dolls/figurines, the playline 1:6 scale works for me now and are a lot smaller (and MUCH cheaper) than BJDs.
Although I AM trying to aim for a community and I was hoping that other doll collectors could volunteer and write articles on other doll brands! Would you be interested

Therese I love this post! Last year I bought a Lea doll from a doll show last year and she is the one with blonde hair. I like the doll but why she has to have blonde hair!!! I love FR dolls because I get to have more dolls who look different and look the race they are!

Thanks! Sometimes I wonder… why can’t they make dolls that are lazy like me who can’t be bothered to dye or highlight their hair? hahaha
