Basically gravatar stands globally recognized avatar.
You can register multiple emails and choose either various avatar to be associated with each email address or one avatar to be associated with ALL your email addresses.
For example, I usually use this avatar for doll related sites… so this image is associated with my dollsofcolor email address.

And for personal stuff I use this avatar as I’m sure some of you would already be familiar with (facebook). This avatar is associated with TWO email addresses of mine (my personal hotmail and bigpond ones).

So once you have an avatar associated with your email address at gravatar it will appear here next to all your comments
