Flashdance Jennifer Beals to be Barbiefied… in white

Wednesday, May 26th, 2010

As part of their Ladies of the 80′s Barbie doll series, Mattel is making a miniature Alex Owens as played by Jennifer Beals from the iconic 1980′s movie Flashdance (1983).

The doll looks like this

Basically that’s…

Token Color – BB Model 05 & SiS RW Grace

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

In normal human language…

Token Color – one of some ethnicities NOT European-Caucasian (because Caucasians aren’t neccessarily all of European descent even though the common usage of the word implies otherwise).

BB Model 05 & SiS RW Grace – Barbie Basics Model #05 AND So in Style Rocawear Grace

Why is BB Model 05 a token?
She is the only East Asian representation in the Barbie Basics line up of 12 dolls. No South Asian (Desi, Subcontinental, Indian), Eurasian (Central and Western Asia, Native American peoples) or SE/Oceanic Asian (Malay, Polynesian) in the line up even. She is supposed to represent all of Asia’s diversity? Tough job kiddo.

What Happened to the Olmec Corporation?

Tuesday, December 15th, 2009

This is one of those “I don’t know the answer and I hope you do” type of questions…

Recently, I’d purchased an Imani & Menelik set from a fellow collector. They were made by a company called the Olmec Corporation. I jumped onto google and found… pretty much nothing about them.

Menelik & Imani - fortunately NOT in neon colours

Brief Update + Lots of Bragging…

Thursday, October 22nd, 2009

Hello my friends :)

Real life has been hectic (mostly of the work kind) and I haven’t had a proper chance to add a post of which I have many still sitting in my mind as is usual…

I have requested an email interview with Stacy McBride Irby – she has said yes – so now I have to start putting together some questions to ask her! Feel free to help me out with suggestions! So far, I am hoping to ask her about getting into toy design, her early influences and the SiS dolls… particularly the hair and fashions.

And hmmm… seriously, I’m actually thinking about work so eeks… brain not good for dolly or sociological stuffs at the moment, so onto the brag part of the post…

I did make a consumerist splurge recently… it was on lipsticks though hehehe
